For now all you need is a birth certificate and a photo ID like a license (or a passport instead) to get into Canada from the U.S. by land crossing but eventually they're going to require a passport by I think summer of 2009.
They already require you to have a passport if you're flying into Canada from the U.S. |

Yes, you're right. Air travel anywhere out of the US requires a passport, and land/sea travel will require a passport next year. Or a passcard, and that's to certain locations only.

If you dig past the first page, it mentions the 6/1/09 deadline for passports.

I don't know if other states are doing this, but WA has what's called an Enhanced Driver's License that'll get you into Canada-land without a passport, provided you don't fly in.

We just went over this, unless you mean it will get you into canada without a drivers license post-2009. |

It is a driver's license as well, and is all you would need to get into the Great White North.
