I have a small patio out back, between our house and a wall. It's...maybe...8'x10'? I'm thinking of going to Goodwill to see if they have any planters. I've got stuff to drop off anyway, so it wouldn't even be a wasted trip if not. Otherwise there's always Old Time Pottery. I want to grow tomatoes, lettuce, and maybe some bell peppers and strawberries.
Damn those evil elves/mice! Why doesn't my cat catch them? Unless it's her that's unleashing the cuts... _________________ "A government big enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to take everything you have." -Pres. Ford

As long as the area gets full sun for a good portion of the day, you should be fine with those things. Lettuce will easily deal with shady spots too, anything that's just leafy greens is a major no fuss type of thing to grow.
Early on after we'd bought this house, I tried strawberries in one of those clay strawberry jar planter things with the holes in the sides and top, but it was rather disappointing harvest wise. I only got a few strawberries off each plant so there wasn't enough to make anything, just enough to eat one or two as they'd come ripe.
I've had awesome results with yellow tomato plants (the variety has the word "sun" in it...) done in planters. Just three plants grown in a big rectangular planter gave me a yield of about 20 pounds of really sweet and tasty tomatoes last summer.

Ah, so the cat's trying to protect you from the elves/mice and has really bad aim. Maybe kitty needs glasses?

*goes to buy kitty glasses for Max*
The patio we have gets full sun from about 7:30am to 1pm, so hopefully that'll be enough for the strawberries... I actually went outside and measured the patio this weekend, and I have a bit more space than I thought I did. It's kinda weird-shaped; there's a little 2'x3' bit of brick that goes around the AC that I thought would be perfect for a planter. There's also an 8' long part that is kind of a bump-back from the door that I thought would be good for a planter. I guess I underestimated the area because of all the rusty patio furniture out there that the hubby has been trying to get me to trash.
So today I visit Old Time Pottery to look for planters.

Makes sense, Easter is a pagan fertility holiday that the Christians hijacked. _________________ This post brought to you by Petty Revenge: When not being a jerk just won't do.

It's been a while since I've commented on here, so let's get up to date.
I'm in California now--I left Maine to take care of my sick grandparents for a while. Shortly after, I met this really amazing girl whom I'm now engaged to. I've been through a couple jobs, and was just laid off* from the most recent one. I'm trying to find a new job now, because being unemployed in LA county sucks donkey balls. As is de rigeur for California, I have started one sect for a splinter religion, and have started my own cult. I also have begun to wear hawaiian shirts from time to time.
I think that's most of the high points. PM for any clarification. _________________ In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
