So, been a while since I've been on these forums...

anyways, I'm taking a road trip to California soon (as in, I leave this Sunday). It's sort of my "hooray I am done with high school and about to start at the University in a few weeks" trip.

What are some suggestions of things to see and do? I'm trying to keep spending to a minimum, since gas is still pretty damn expensive, but I will have some money for fun things. Sadly, no one is going with me (most of my friend are in the process of moving like I am, and their families want them close to home as long as they can keep them), but I've met people over the last couple of years who live in California and who I will spend some time with.

Furthest south I know I am going for sure is Fresno, but I may also be making a trip into LA to visit someone.

EDIT: I know I'll be heading to San Francisco for sure. Salinas and Pleasanton too.

I'd go to Ripley's Museum, there's a lot of cool shit there. Hit Fisherman's Wharf, and make sure you get some real San Francisco sourdough. You can do Alcatraz if you want, but I wouldn't recommend it, not that exciting. If you can find Alameda, you can either hang out by the old naval base and hope you see the Mythbusters crew, or actively stalk, er, seek them out.

Sorry, a little late:

Eat at The Stinking Rose, visit Haight St. (and avoid tattoos), the shopping district is kinda fun, but expensive, make sure to walk through Chinatown and eat some mostly-authentic chinese food.

That should keep you busy this weekend icon_smile.gif

I second Alameda, even though I've never been there, especially if you like cars, because of this series over at Jalopnik.com: http://jalopnik.com/5026088/300-old-cars-down-on-the-alameda-street

You mean the museum isn't a piece of crap as well? I just got back from Myrtle Beach and the whole time I was DYING to go to the Ripley's Aquarium. We finally went on the last day we were there. If we hadn't gotten military discount I would have felt SERIOUSLY ripped off. I feel bad for anyone who has to pay full price to see that junk.

This is Ripley's as in Ripley's Believe It or Not. For good Aquariums you need either the Vancouver Aquarium in Stanley Park or the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

It was Ripley's as in Ripley's Believe It or Not. There were close to no fish and the souveniers were super over-priced.
