When Pacino's Hot, I'm Hot: A Miscellany of Stories & Commentary
by Robert Levin
A compendium of fiction and non-fiction by a humorist sui generis: ironist, satirist, realist, burlesque comicyes, all from the same author, this Robert Levin who gleefully fingers the absurdities of life with trenchant wit and daunting intelligence. His voices are many and varied and ultimately balanced: the cynicism of Everything's All Right In the Middle East leavened by the belly laughs of Peggie, the raw sensibility of "Spinning the Wheel of the Quivering Meat Conception lightened by the surprising sweetness of the title story. Scathing examinations of self-destructiveness give way to redemption (of sorts) in "Dog Days." Finally, there is the sadder but wiser "Free Jazz," illuminating the 60s with piercing intellect and hardly a guffaw to be found. And so a writer, perfectly willing to offend if that's what it takes to be funny and make his point, turns out to please in a myriad of ways. A collection to laugh with and wonder at.
Robert Levin ("A writer from whom I always learn something." Nat Hentoff) is the coauthor and coeditor, respectively, of two collections of essays about jazz and rock in the '60s: Music & Politics (with John Sinclair), World, and Giants of Black Music (with Pauline Rivelli), Da Capo Press. Among numerous other places, his stories and commentary have appeared in, or on the web sites of, Absinthe Literary Review, Best of Nuvein Fiction, Cosmoetica, Eyeshot, New York Review, Rolling Stone, Sein und Werden, Sweet Fancy Moses, Underground Voices, Unlikely Stories, The Village Voice and the Word Riot 2003 Anthology.
Forthcoming from Amazon, etc., When Pacino's Hot, I'm Hot is currently available from www.thedrillpress.com in both print and as a PDF download.

I'd say that if Levin had posted a sample of his book, or done the announcement himself, it'd be 100% accepted and welcomed. But press releases are cold, non-communicative things...
In other words, spam.
So you know... I'd love to hear from Robert. Heck, if DrillPress had been more "hey guys, guess what, Robert's written for this site before and we think you might be interested in..." I'd be cool. But just posting a press release as your first ever post is poor form.

Actually, I remember the robert levin stories and they were kind of okay. Still...not good enough for unpaid advertising. _________________ Military intelligence/Two words combined which can't make sense...
