Should "A Small Victory" be pulled aside and made a very special "Chapter 13" in the book (final chapter)?
No, leave "A Small Victory" in the voting for Chapter 12. Let's see what wins.

Okay, this is a hard question for me to ask, but I guess I have to. And I know it belongs in "Mentally Incontinent Stuff", but it's an important question, so I'm putting it here to make sure everyone sees it.
It has been suggested by no less than 20 people that the newest story, "A Small Victory", would be the perfect ending for the book. The more I hear it, the more I think I agree. For one thing, it would make the book come out about a month earlier than originally scheduled. But the downside is that I still have 3 stories planned after the Guest Chapter II contest.
So basically, i've got a few options here:
I can close off the book after the Guest Chapter 2 contest and let everyone vote on the 3 stories for Chapter 12,
-- OR --
I can go ahead and call "A Small Victory" the chapter 12 story,
-- OR --
We can just keep going as planned.
What do you guys think???
If everyone thinks we should just finish as planned, I won't post this in the main voting on the site. However, if it's a split vote or everyone decides to close the book, I will, to make sure all users see the vote and get their say.
And just in case it matters: The other 3 stories would be reserved to open up MI2, and no, the Hooters story is NOT one of the final 3. That's definitely waiting for MI2. Sorry, it's just how it is
And this poll closes next Friday (7.15.05).

My vote would be go ahead and call "A Small Victory" the chapter 12 story.
There is something that just seems right in you selecting the final chapter,
Especially since we chose the rest of them. Also, that story feels right for the ending, so I think it might just win anyway.

Like I said in an IM Joe, why fix what isn't broken? Who knows? One of the remaining three stories might blow The Walmart Story *AND* the PETA story out of the water! _________________ Help me GoogleBomb for Joe's publicity!

i quite like the idea
But seeing as i want to see the other storys, why not have it as a bit of an epilog at the end, and rewrite the ending slightly so it would fit in better as one?
and youve promised me that damn hooters story for about 7 months now _________________ "A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic." -Joseph Stalin
Hmmm, tough call. One hand, A Small Victory would make a great ending for the book; other, I really would like to see the other stories to compete against it.

Okay, I vote let the other stories come out and battle it out. I think there's a pretty good chance A Small Victory will win out anyway, that story is awesome. _________________ I took a man to a graveyard. I beg your pardon, it's quite hard enough, just living with the stuff I have learned.

JtP, I think posting the other stories you had in mind for Chapt 12 would be good, I've already voted otherwise but it would be cool to have more stories and I suspect the readership will vote "a small victory" to the win *anyway* but.. best way to find out is to try.
I think coldnight said what I was thinking in a clearer manner than what I managed to express it with. _________________ I took a man to a graveyard. I beg your pardon, it's quite hard enough, just living with the stuff I have learned.
I vote keep going... namely because I love reading new stories. And really, who the heck knows when MI2 will get up and going!
I can't go without Joe's antics too long! I must delay the suffering.
A small victory should be chapter 13 and the end of the book.
You can put up the other three stories, and they can battle with the other ones from the current chapter 12 linup for the actual chapter 12. That way we end up with a great closer, and the other's aren't cut out Romance.net style. Since you have the wildcard chapter and the two reader chapters, you'll have 16 chapters all together. That seems like a nice square number to end a book with.

Whelp, let me explain the final format of the book:
There will be 12 "voted" chapters, 2 wildcards, 2 guest stories, and 5 all new, never before seen stories.
Those numbers are pretty much fixed. If we make it chapter 13, that eliminates either another wildcard story or one of the new, never before seen stories. So, be sure you want that before you say it
Also, just my viewpoint:
If you're going to vote for "A Small Victory", why even bother with the other 3 stories? Why not start off MI2 with those? I mean, if you're going to vote for it anyway, why not just say "Ok, it's good to go, let's get moving on MI2?"
Not that I vote for that, it's just a question. I'm really eager to get the book out, but it's YOUR call. This is YOUR book.

Ah, but see, if we wait that extra month, not only does it build up that last-minute "oh my god it's coming out soon" suspense, but it also gives me time to save up the money to actually BUY the thing. How much is it going to be, anyway? _________________ Help me GoogleBomb for Joe's publicity!

I guess that's an important question
I've done a lot of research on this. The paperback edition will be about 300 pages, and for a 300 page humor-oriented paperback, I've seen prices between 15.95 and 21.95. I'm thinking it'll be on the low end of those numbers, and that's for cover price - Amazon, B&N, etc. always discount from there, so it'll be lower than that. As long as I can cover costs, I'm good.

I'd probably pay up to $25-30 for it for the quality I know I can expect from you and since I know it's something I'd enjoy instead of taking a gamble on. _________________ Help me GoogleBomb for Joe's publicity!
