OK, I just read this and it's beyond amazing and very very APPRECIATED since I feel like I'm the kind of guy who is probably going to get beaten up one day (I'm trying to change that, though, I don't like that part of me).
Anywhoo, what I didn't notice was anything regarding the tactic of turning into a total psychopath and trying to literally kill the other person, screaming profanities and death threats (and maybe, if they're another race, a bit of hate speech, not that I'm racist I'm absolutely against racism, but it would probably make them scared?) and like try to gouge their eyes and rip their throat out and biting and breaking digits and stuff like that. Basically trying to act like a serial killer who just watched the guy who he's going to fight throw his infant child off of the Empire State Building.
Would that be very effective? Or is it more likely just to get you killed or arrested? Is it better to get a couple of blows in, or is it better to bring the motherfucker to the brink of death so that if he DOES get away from you, he'll think twice before ever picking a fight again?
The reason I'm asking is because I have a friend who swears by this tactic, but unlike him you've actually shown evidence that you know what you're talking about, so I thought I would check with you first. _________________ -neofox87

you friend is an idiot. You never wanna go throw some hate speech around, let's say his buddies are there and weren't going to be involved...they will now. Not to mention it's now a hate crime not just assault. And just plain ignorant.
as for acting crazy, I'm sure it'll work to psyche some people out, but it'll just throw you off your game in my opinion. In wrestling in high school, when I first started I'd get myself all pissed off, and go in there and make stupid mistakes, as I learned I'd be calm, cool, wait for them to make the stupid mistake of rushing in and then taking them out.
That being said, if you're in a street fight, a real street fight, it's said you go for the kill. Try to incapacitate them, but don't kill them, as there's a few more legal charges you don't want to deal with, but it's very possible he's out to kill you as well. If it's just some silly high school fight, just hurt the kid, don't incapacitate him.

Your friend doesn't understand what psycho is. In nature that kind of posturing is the standard. Real psychos just stand there staring past you. Maybe smiling a little bit. Next thing you know, there's a pen in your eye and you're on the ground. And you never even saw him move.....
Drama aside, what you describe just makes people angry, dealing with someone who is genuinely disturbed raises strong feeling of "this is WRONG" in people. It's not all that easy to fake it. _________________

Now THAT would psych me out. I'm one of those people that acts all cheery until I'm punching you, and then it's such a surprise that people usually just stand there staring...

if you really want to psyche someone out and make them think you're a psycho, and you can take it, if you get a couple punches in the face, smile and laugh (even though it will hurt like a bitch) that'll get them to pause for a little. but it's still a better idea to not get hit in the first place
When I got my tongue pierced (and I'm not gay, imagine that?) I find that really fucked up.I'm a chick. Most guys I know are afraid of me. I fight cheap, but not dirty. I don't pull hair or even wear high heels. I won't deny the nails because if I ever got in a fight hell yeah I'd be using what I've got.

About a month ago I finally realized my fistfight dream -- to block a punch with my forehead.
It was the may 24 weekend (alternatively called Victoria Day weekend). Essentially it's a mandatory 3-day weekend which doesn't normally happen anywhere near May 24th. However, the 24 in the name is more synonymous nowadays for the amount of beers this type of event commands. It's essentially a government-approved drunkfest for the discerning alcoholic.
I was out with a couple buddies, doing your standard issue pubcrawl when we landed in the Failte, our most irish of irish pubs in town. Small venue, always with live talent on the weekends. And possibly one of the only places in the area that knows how to pour a good pint of Guinness.
Anyhow, during the few beers we had there, I noticed some douchbag across the room kept staring at me. Like burning holes in the back of my eyes type of staring. The guy looked like a random twentysomething, short with a permanent scowl, and drunk as all hell. I didn't know why he needed to eyeball fuck me as I was a complete stranger and I hadn't thrown (or stolen) a single glass all night. Anyways, later on we pay our tab and venture out to the next establishment.
This dude proceeds to follow us out of the pub. Upon hitting the sidewalk, this guy yells out at me and I turn around. At this point I've pretty much pegged him as one of those folks who just likes to fight for fighting's sake. Even through my drunken haze I realized I was in for a sucker punch as soon as he got close enough.
Sure enough, as soon as he neared I had a straight-on punch coming my way, (seemingly) to the general area of my face. I instinctively knew I had to do something to block it, but my arms weren't terribly interested in moving that fast. So I did the only thing I could do, I ducked my head and exposed my constantly receeding hairline to his wrath....
... CRACK! I wasn't sure if his knuckles just cracked or I did some serious damage as both of us were inebriated enough not to a) feel it right away or b) care. Oddly enough, just as fast as he landed that punch he spun around and casually started walking in the other direction. I didn't see the look on his face, but I figure he just lost interest.
At any rate I still realized my dream. And while I didn't throw a single punch, it was awesome.
.. and now I can't believe I just typed that all out.

I believe in a fair fight. The only person whose hair I pull is my sister's, and that's just a friendly greeting.
I do wear heels, but I typically only use them as a threat.
I don't use my nails on purpose, although I have been known to break the skin on my own hand by accident; no, they're not freakishly long, just thin and therefore sharp. But guys can grow nails that are long enough to do damage without looking like weirdos. They're probably even less brittle than mine, lol.
