Part 8 - Zero

“Kiss me, please kiss me - but kiss me out of desire, babe, and not consolation...” Jeff Buckley, Last Goodbye

My awareness returned only enough to allow me to notice her eyes locked on mine. The world stuttered and stopped. There was no roar of the ocean, there was no drawing of breath. I could not move and I could not think. I could only gaze in wonder and hope.

Finally, she released me from my prison.

"I..." She said, dragging the word out and across the ground. "I love you, too." She extended her head upward, kissing me softly on my chapped lips.

I noticed that it had stopped snowing.

Hey, it's cool how the segments got shorter and shorter towards zero, not that anyone coming here for their literary fix would mind if you pulled a hemingway and rambled aimlessly for 10 pages. Keep 'em comin' Joe.

Quote from Alcoholic Butterfly in -5 Seconds:

That was better.

but what could happen in 5 seconds?

That. Joe went to prison, then got out... all in 5 seconds.

I hope that the stories get progressively longer now, just as they became shorter and shorter as we approached Ground Zero!

Joe, you just made my nuts drop another inch with your craziness. Keep it up, and for crying out loud make the stories longer.

Mmm... Jeff Buckley.

I've loved everything thus far. This story, in particular, really echoes the terrifying-whirlwind-John Hughes-esque magic those first few months after Mark and I finally met face to face. The nervousness, the amazement that, finally, there's someone who really gets it. When I read these stories, I've found myself grinning and nodding.

While the stories have gotten shorter, it really does reflect how the brain reacts when you have completely and utterly fallen for someone. Fragments. Scents. Sounds. Polaroids of moments that won't matter in 100 years but matter right now.

This is such a wonderful story, Joe. I can't wait to read the next installments.

Seems like the only way this story can go is downhill from here. Being that this is 0 seconds, it has got to be the climax.
